Writer's Corner #3: Taking Breaks

Writer's Corner #3
Taking Breaks

I: The Effects of Stress
"None of us like stress-" is that a reasonable statement? While each of us handles the stress of our daily lives differently, the negative effects stress has on health stays the same. It prevents you from feeling happy and makes hobbies feel more like a chore. In fact, you could even compare being under a lot of stress to a sort of mini-depression. Heck, it might even be the cause of depression for some people. Here I've listed the many problems that come with stress:

- body pains like headaches, chest pain, and an upset stomach are common symptoms of stress

- other negative effects include anxiety, lack of motivation, and anger

II: Procrastination

Of course, taking too long a break can lead to... issues. The short breaks can be a mistake, and lead to necessary work being incomplete. This is an issue especially for students, as taking a break from creative writing can also mean taking a break from homework. As such, it's important to never go too far with your breaks. They're supposed to eliminate stress, not lead to problems. But they do, anyway.
As such, my personal recommendation is to have more loose schedule (but still be writing) over the weekend, and take more of a no-writing break over holidays if you wish. Other than that, taking a break from writing is like taking a break from work. You should only do it when you're sick, have business to attend to, or if there's a family, religious, or cultural celebration. You can't just take a break whenever you want- that's called procrastination.
